Drawing on decades of advanced calibration, data processing, and analysis experience, RMS extracts the power of hyperspectral remote sensing to support a wide range of real-world applications. RMS was founded in 1997, to perform leading-edge R&D activities geared toward the development of a complete, commercially-viable hyperspectral remote sensing industry. RMS performs a wide variety of technical support services, from sensor and signal simulations and sensor, data product and information product validation and verifications, to software systems design, construction and implementation. RMS has developed a dynamic new software system for the high-volume, operational ingest and processing of hyperspectral data called the Hyperspectral Data Processing System (HyDaPSTM ), geared toward the high-end, data supplier and user community.
Founder and President of Remote Measurement Services, Dr. James Sokolowski, with a Ph.D. in astronomy and astrophysics from Rice University and a B.Sc. in experimental physics from the University of Michigan, has more than a decade of hyperspectral data processing, analysis and applications experience in the astronomical and Earth sciences sectors. In addition, Dr. Sokolowski has twenty years experience in advanced data and image calibration, processing, and analyses experience in the physical, astronomical, Earth science, and medical imaging fields. From 1987 to 1993, Dr. Sokolowski worked with the Hawaii Imaging Fabry-Perot Interferomenter (HIFI) hyperspectral system processing and analyzing astrophysical observations of starburst & active galaxies, quasars and the early universe. Since then, he has been involved in Earth Remote Sensing, where from 1995 to 1997, he was the technical manager of the data processing, data analyses and applications sector for NASA's Lewis spacecraft project. In this capacity, he designed, built and commissioned the Lewis 'Data Processing System' (DPS), a fully-automated software environment for the production of georeferenced, radiance and reflectance cubes from that spacecraft's HyperSpectral Imager (HSI). Also in that capacity, he spearheaded NASA's efforts to ensure wide-spread utilization of the Lewis/HSI imagery spanning a complete sample of appropriate vertical market segments. As head of RMS, Dr. Sokolowski has served hyperspectral sensor and data suppliers, data processing and end users for both government (USDA, NASA, US Army) and commercial customers in the forestry, environmental, mining, agriculture and petroleum communities.
